MAKE PERFECT VANILLA EXTRACT, EVERY TIME

Ever scratched your head, asking, “Seriously, how much alcohol and how many vanilla beans do I actually need to make one pint of vanilla extract?”

Guess what? We’ve got you covered!

Here at Amadeus Vanilla, we’re thrilled to share the easiest, most customizable vanilla calculator you’ll ever use. It was originally built by our friend, Daniel Talsky, for his own projects, and he kindly let us share it with all of you.

You can find the calculator right here: Vanilla Extract Calculator

This tool is super intuitive because you only need to know ONE of the following to figure out your perfect recipe:

  • The amount of vanilla beans you already have on hand.
  • How much alcohol you want to dedicate to your batch.
  • The size of your container (whether you’re making a small 100ml batch or a massive 15 gallon jug!).

Next, you just tell the calculator how intense you want your extract to be. You get to choose your “fold” strength:

  • Single-Fold: The standard vanilla you’d grab at the grocery store.
  • 1.5-Fold: A great all-purpose choice for the average home chef.
  • Double-Fold: Deliciously potent, perfect for cookies, cakes, and homemade ice cream.
  • Triple-Fold: Seriously intense! This is the concentration specialty bakers and professional chefs love.

The calculator even lets you choose between two formulation standards:

  • Co-op Formula: This recipe is slightly stronger than the FDA’s standard.
  • FDA Formula: This is the minimum strength required for all vanilla extract sold in the U.S.

For example, let’s say you have a quarter pound of vanilla beans (that’s 4 oz or 113.4 grams) and you want a rich, Double-Fold, Co-op Formula extract. The calculator will tell you to add 16 fluid ounces (or 473.28 ml) of alcohol.

Finding the Vanilla Calculator on our website is easy – Go to SHOP, then EXTRACT GRADE BEANS and you’ll see it.

It’s truly magic! Seriously, go ahead and play around with it—you’ll be brewing your next batch in no time!
